What You’ll Do
This is a hands-on, field-focused entry-level engineering role within the Rail Construction & Administration Management (Rail CAM) practice. You will learn from experienced railroad professionals while supporting rail construction, inspection, and field investigations.
- Support rail construction management and on-site construction observation
- Assist with industry track inspections and owner’s representative duties
- Perform field data collection for geotechnical and site investigations
- Help prepare field reports, daily logs, and basic technical documentation
- Coordinate with construction managers, track inspectors, subcontractors, and project teams
- Apply and follow safety practices in active construction environments
- Travel frequently for assignments; may be up to 100% during peak construction seasons
Who You Are / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain EIT certification shortly after hire
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Demonstrated interest in field-based engineering, construction observation, and railroad operations
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions and in active construction zones
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including extended field assignments (up to 100% during peak periods)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to project sites
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 lbs
Nice to Have / Preferred
- Internship or prior field experience on transportation or rail projects
- Basic familiarity with track inspection processes or rail operations
- Exposure to geotechnical field testing and reporting
