What You’ll Do

This is a field-first, hands-on entry-level engineering role on a Rail Construction & Administration Management (CAM) team. Expect frequent travel and direct learning from experienced railroad professionals.

  • Support rail construction management and field construction observation on public and private rail projects
  • Assist construction managers, track inspectors, and owner’s representatives during active construction
  • Perform industry track inspection support and help document conditions and findings
  • Participate in geotechnical field investigations and assist with data collection and sampling
  • Collect field measurements, prepare site notes, photos, and inspection reports
  • Support project documentation, submittals, and change-order tracking
  • Follow safety plans and enforce site safety protocols on active construction zones
  • Communicate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders; escalate issues to supervisors
  • Travel frequently to project sites (including extended assignments) and adapt to outdoor work environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain EIT shortly after hire
  • Demonstrated interest in field-based engineering, construction observation, and railroad operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Comfortable working in varying terrain, weather conditions, and active construction environments
  • Willingness to travel extensively — up to 100% during peak construction seasons
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field assignments
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment
