What You’ll Do

This Entry-Level Nutritionist role supports formulation and nutritional programs for pet food/feed products, working closely with quality, production, and procurement teams to ensure products meet nutritional and regulatory standards.

  • Support development, evaluation and implementation of nutrition programs and pet food/feed formulations
  • Analyze feed ingredients and ingredient specifications to inform formulations
  • Assist with formulation development and optimization using formulation tools or software
  • Collaborate with quality, production, and procurement to ensure manufacturability and ingredient availability
  • Conduct industry and ingredient research to support product development and innovation
  • Monitor nutritional and quality data; maintain accurate formulation and testing documentation
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts (including reference to AAFCO guidelines and other applicable standards)
  • Coordinate with lab/QA on testing, sample tracking, and corrective actions when needed
  • Use Excel and other tools to analyze nutritional data and produce reports for cross-functional teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition, Animal Science, Food Science, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of animal nutrition principles and feed formulation (3–5 years of relevant experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret nutritional data and ingredient specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working across teams
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a production-oriented environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the pet food, feed, or animal nutrition industry (3–5 years preferred)
  • Familiarity with pet food/feed formulation software or feed formulation tools
  • Understanding of pet food manufacturing processes and ingredient sourcing
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to animal feed and nutrition (including AAFCO guidelines)
  • Interest in emerging ingredients and innovation in pet nutrition
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate technical documentation

Compensation & Location

  • Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 per year
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Location: West Lafayette, IN (role may collaborate with teams in nearby facilities such as Mishawaka, IN)
