Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Naval Architect / Ocean Engineer to join a growing ocean engineering team. This full-time role is based in Johnson City, TN. The position offers hands-on experience across ship design, coastal and offshore structures, marine renewable devices, and numerical modeling workflows. The team values collaboration, mentorship, technical rigor, and professional growth.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide primary technical support for projects involving ship design, coastal civil structures, marine construction support, offshore energy platforms, and marine renewable energy devices.
  • Perform climatological and environmental analysis, hydrodynamic motions and load calculations for floating structures, and mooring system design and analysis.
  • Apply finite element, potential-flow, and CFD tools for structural and fluid analyses.
  • Execute data-driven studies using probabilistic methods, large dataset synthesis, optimization, fleet planning, logistics, and risk assessment.
  • Support model testing, field trials, validation of numerical models, and the preparation of technical reports and client deliverables.
  • Contribute to group process improvements by developing tools, templates, and documented procedures to increase engineering efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Academic background or equivalent experience in hydrodynamics, climatology, mooring analysis, offshore operations, ship design, and/or offshore platforms.
  • Familiarity with naval architecture and hydrodynamics software packages; experience with CFD, FEA, or potential-flow tools is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to problem solving and to develop analytical approaches and novel design concepts.
  • Strong written, oral, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with marine standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., USCG, ABS, DNV, API) and ability to apply them to design work.
  • Willingness to travel and participate in fieldwork as required; project assignments may require a valid driver’s license, passport, and/or TWIC card.

Education & Certification

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in naval architecture, ocean engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ambition and ability to pursue U.S. professional engineering licensure once experience requirements are met; Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.

Location & Work Model

  • This role is based in Johnson City, TN. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel and fieldwork as project needs dictate.
  • Associates may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements in accordance with the client’s policies after successful completion of an initial employment period.
