Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an Entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join their engineering team in Federal Heights, CO. This contract-to-hire, full-time role focuses on mechanical and machine design for packaging and material handling systems (conveyors and large mechanical assemblies). The position includes structured training, hands-on projects, and clear paths for professional growth.


What You’ll Do

  • Design packaging and material handling equipment, including conveyor subsystems and mechanical components.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D fabrication/shop drawings using SolidWorks and other CAD tools.
  • Prepare and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for designed systems.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to sheet metal and structural component design.
  • Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to review designs, resolve build issues, and implement feedback.
  • Support projects from concept through completion, ensuring designs meet specifications, safety, and quality standards.
  • Optimize existing designs to improve performance, reduce cost, and simplify fabrication/assembly.
  • Contribute to project documentation and drawing revisions.
  • Participate in continuous learning and training to build practical engineering skills.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. 3.5 GPA requirement.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D drafting (strongly preferred).
  • Experience or coursework in mechanical design, machine assemblies, sheet metal, or material handling equipment.
  • Ability to create and interpret shop/fabrication drawings and maintain BOMs.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, modeling, and documentation.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills to work with cross-functional engineering and fabrication teams.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-growing environment.

Preferred / Additional Skills

  • Experience with conveyor systems, packaging equipment, or material handling solutions.
  • Experience designing large mechanical systems or assemblies with multiple integrated components.
  • Comfortable reading complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and adaptable during facility growth or temporary onsite conditions (e.g., working from a trailer during construction).

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour (Contract to Hire). Individual pay within this range will depend on qualifications, experience, location, and other job-related factors.
  • While on contract, paid holidays may be available. If converted to permanent employment, overtime and profit-sharing opportunities may be possible.

Workplace & Location

  • This is a fully onsite role based in Federal Heights, CO (near Denver). The position is Contract to Hire and scheduled as Full Time.
  • You will work in a modern, expanding facility. During construction phases you may occasionally work from temporary onsite spaces (e.g., trailers), so flexibility is important.
  • Standard office and engineering tools are used, including SolidWorks and CAD workstations.
