Position summary
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Materials Engineer to support metallography oversight and materials assurance activities for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program. This full-time role is based in Lynchburg, VA and includes hands-on metallographic work, technical oversight, training, and some travel to vendor sites. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and will be subject to a federal background investigation and drug testing.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical oversight for Central Agency - Metallography and metallographic inspections supporting Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program work.
- Conduct and oversee metallography and materials evaluations, prepare documentation and reports.
- Deliver training and technical guidance to vendor personnel and internal teams on metallographic methods and inspection standards.
- Support process control, product assurance activities, and root-cause investigations related to metallurgical issues.
- Coordinate travel to vendor and shipyard sites as required to perform on-site inspections, audits, and training.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and quality teams to maintain compliance with program requirements.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical/engineering/science field; OR a Master’s degree in a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of metallography, materials characterization, and inspection methods.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and training.
- Ability to travel periodically to vendor sites; willingness to accept possible permanent placement in Lynchburg, VA if desired.
- U.S. citizenship required; ability to pass a federal background investigation and meet eligibility for access to classified matter.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing in accordance with federal regulations (marijuana testing included).

- Salary range: $63,900 — $97,800 per year (range provided based on experience and qualifications).
