Position overview
Confidential client is seeking an Entry Level Lab Technician (Gas Analysis) to join a fast-paced analytical laboratory in Dickson, TN. This hands-on role focuses on testing and preparing medical and specialty gases using gas chromatography (GC), FTIR, CO analyzers and LIMS. The position is contract-to-hire, full-time with a rotating shift schedule and offers structured training and professional development.
What You’ll Do
- Perform analytical testing of gas samples to detect impurities and verify product quality using gas chromatography and spectroscopic techniques.
- Connect and disconnect gas cylinders to analytical systems inside ventilated cabinets; monitor analysis runs and document results.
- Operate and maintain GC/GCP-type systems and use Galaxy/Compass GC control software for data collection.
- Use FTIR spectrometers and CO analyzers to identify and quantify gas components and trace impurities.
- Upload, review, and maintain analytical results and records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments.
- Prepare and fill medical and specialty gas mixtures using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques per procedures.
- Test and certify incoming raw materials, and process cylinders for shipment (painting, labeling, valve prep, certificates of analysis).
- Follow strict safety protocols when handling toxic and hazardous chemicals; participate in required safety training.
- Apply chromatography knowledge (peak characteristics, troubleshooting) to interpret results and resolve analytical issues.
- Support a clean, organized laboratory environment aligned with quality, GMP, and regulatory requirements.
Who You Are (Essential Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering OR at least 2 years of analytical laboratory experience.
- Hands-on experience in a chemistry or analytical lab environment with chemical handling.
- Ability to perform chromatography-based analyses and operate GC/GCP-type instruments.
- Proficiency or demonstrated ability to learn Galaxy/Compass GC control software.
- Familiarity with FTIR spectroscopy and other spectroscopic techniques used in gas analysis.
- Experience with or aptitude for using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Understanding of quality control, documentation standards, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work a DuPont rotating shift schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Physical capability to handle, move, and load gas cylinders safely.
Nice to Have (Preferred / Additional Skills)
- Prior toxic chemical handling experience and knowledge of safe storage/disposal practices.
- Experience with GC control software and advanced chromatographic troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with partial pressure and gravimetric techniques for gas mixture preparation.
- Laboratory technician or chemical engineering background and internship experience.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work independently within procedures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with laboratory and production teams.
Work environment & schedule
This is a fully onsite role in Dickson, TN, working in a clean, organized chemistry laboratory focused on medical and specialty gases. The operation runs 24/7 on a DuPont rotating pattern (structured rotations between day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays). The position requires strict adherence to PPE, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Conversion to a permanent role may be possible based on performance.
Compensation & benefits
- Pay rate: $28.00 per hour (range: $28.00 - $28.00/hr).
- Employment type: Contract-to-Hire, Full-time.
