What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Lab Technician (Laboratory Technician — Gas Analysis) to perform routine and non-routine analytical testing of medical and specialty gases. This hands-on role operates GC and spectroscopic instrumentation, prepares and tests gas mixtures, documents results in LIMS, and follows strict quality and safety procedures. This is a contract-to-hire, fully onsite position in Dickson, TN.

  • Perform gas analysis using gas chromatography (GC) and spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, CO analyzers) to detect impurities and verify product quality.
  • Connect and disconnect gas cylinders in ventilated cabinets; set up runs, monitor analyses, and log results (cylinder hook-up/removal can take up to 30 minutes per sample).
  • Operate and maintain GC/GCP-type systems using Galaxy/Compass control software; perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance.
  • Prepare and fill medical and specialty gas mixtures and pure gases using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques per SOPs.
  • Enter, review, and maintain analytical data and QC documentation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Test and certify incoming raw materials and process cylinders for shipment (painting, labeling, valve prep, certificates of analysis).
  • Interpret chromatographic peaks, troubleshoot instrument issues, and apply GMP quality control principles.
  • Follow established safety procedures when handling hazardous and toxic chemicals; participate in required safety training.
  • Work a DuPont rotating schedule (days/nights/weekends/holidays) to support 24/7 operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, OR at least 2 years of analytical laboratory experience.
  • Hands-on experience in a chemistry/analytical lab or demonstrated competency from internships or school labs.
  • Ability to perform chromatography-based analyses and operate GC/GCP-type systems.
  • Familiarity with spectroscopic techniques (FTIR) and CO analysis for gas purity testing.
  • Experience with, or aptitude to learn, Galaxy/Compass GC control software and LIMS.
  • Understanding of quality control principles and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) concepts.
  • Ability to safely handle toxic/hazardous chemicals and to move/load gas cylinders as required.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts (DuPont schedule) including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred / Helpful Skills

  • Prior toxic chemical handling experience and knowledge of safe storage/disposal practices.
  • Experience with gas chromatography control software and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with partial pressure and gravimetric techniques for gas mixture preparation.
  • Laboratory technician or chemical engineering background.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment & Schedule

This position is fully onsite in a clean, organized analytical laboratory handling medical and specialty gases. Work involves advanced analytical equipment (GC/GCP, FTIR, CO analyzers, LIMS) and regular work with hazardous materials inside ventilated cabinets. The role follows a DuPont rotating shift pattern to provide continuous 24/7 coverage. The schedule is published in advance and offers extended blocks of time off compared to a typical Monday–Friday schedule.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $28.00 per hour (range: $28.00 - $28.00/hr).
  • Employment type: Contract to Hire (initial contract with potential conversion based on performance).

Individual compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, location, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
