The Entry-Level Java/JEE Developer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, implementing, and testing RESTful web services and web applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Angular within an Agile team environment. This role requires strong collaboration, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work on-site in Ashburn, VA, initially full-time with potential for hybrid work after one year, supporting enterprise-scale software development projects.

What You’ll Do
This role is for a junior/entry-level Java/JEE Developer joining a confidential client’s IT team in Ashburn, VA. You will contribute to full-stack development focused on backend services and modern web frontends as part of an Agile team.
- Design, implement, and unit test RESTful web services using Java, Spring / Spring Boot, and JUnit.
- Build and maintain front-end web applications using Angular, Typescript, RxJS, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Write complex SQL queries and perform data modeling against RDBMS platforms (e.g., Oracle or PostgreSQL).
- Implement persistence using JPA / Hibernate.
- Collaborate within a large Agile development team; participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and continuous integration workflows.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance and data access patterns.
- Follow secure coding practices and support delivery of high-quality, production-ready software.
Qualifications
Required skills & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Approximately 2+ years of Java/JEE design and software development experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and building REST web services.
- Experience with Angular, Typescript, RxJS, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with RDBMS (Oracle or PostgreSQL recommended).
- Experience with JPA / Hibernate.
- Familiarity with unit testing (JUnit) and writing testable code.
- Comfortable working in an Agile development environment and collaborating across teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to learn quickly and take initiative.
Preferred / Desired Skills
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field is a plus.
- Experience with microservices architecture and related patterns.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases.
- Exposure to AWS or cloud-hosted application patterns.
- Comfortable with development tools such as Eclipse and Visual Studio Code.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in a dynamic data environment.
Location & Clearance Requirements
- This position is based in Ashburn, VA and will be 100% on-site for the first year of employment (5 days per week). After the first year, a hybrid schedule (typically 2–3 days on-site) may be possible depending on team needs.
- Citizenship requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Clearance requirement: Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP background investigation (or equivalent suitability process).

Compensation
- Estimated base salary: $100,955 per year (estimated). Actual pay will depend on experience, skills, and location and will comply with applicable state and local pay transparency requirements.
