What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level IT/Programmer to join their IT team in Fort Sam Houston, TX. This is an excellent role for an early-career technologist who wants hands-on exposure to legacy application support, Linux and Windows system administration, and helpdesk operations.
- Maintain and support legacy applications written in COBOL
- Provide first-level helpdesk support to internal users (hardware, software, account provisioning)
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot basic issues on Linux and Windows servers
- Perform routine system administration tasks and patch management
- Assist with documentation updates, onboarding, and account setup
- Collaborate with senior developers and IT staff on enhancements and bug fixes
- Support basic network troubleshooting (IP configuration, connectivity, DNS)
Who You Are (Required Qualifications)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field — or equivalent experience
- Basic knowledge of COBOL programming
- Familiarity with Linux command line and file system structure
- Understanding of Microsoft Windows OS and common administrative tasks
- Strong problem-solving and verbal/written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Exposure to networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Experience with ticketing systems or IT service desk tools
- Familiarity with version control (for example, Git)
- Comfortable learning new tools and taking on expanding responsibilities
