Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level (Staff) Geotechnical Engineer to join their Wilmington, NC office. This early-career, full-time role combines field work (site investigation, materials testing) with office tasks (reporting, basic design support using AutoCAD/GIS). Ideal candidates are motivated, willing to travel and work outdoors, and eager to grow technical and field skills.


What You’ll Do

  • Use GIS and GPS to plan and execute geotechnical field work
  • Log test borings and prepare field reports
  • Oversee subcontractors (drillers, traffic control) during field investigations
  • Assign and review laboratory testing and interpret results
  • Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS
  • Perform calculations to support geotechnical designs
  • Support preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals
  • Observe geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testing
  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical and materials testing field work
  • Review geotechnical and materials testing reports

Minimum qualifications

  • 0–2 years relevant professional experience in geotechnical, civil engineering, geology, or related fields
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related discipline
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work, travel for assignments (which may last several months), and work outdoors
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely navigate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (driving is an essential function of the job)

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior internship or professional experience in geotechnical engineering, construction, or civil engineering
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • EIT certification or progress toward licensure

Compensation & benefits

  • Compensation range: $62,400 — $86,000 per year (actual pay may vary based on location and experience)
