Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level (Staff) Geotechnical Engineer to support geotechnical field investigations, laboratory testing coordination, basic design calculations, and report preparation in and around Dulles Town Center, VA. This is a hands-on role ideal for recent graduates or engineers with 0–2 years of relevant experience who want to develop both field and analytical skills.


What You’ll Do

  • Use GIS and GPS to plan and execute geotechnical field work
  • Log test borings and document field observations
  • Oversee subcontractors (drillers, traffic control) on site
  • Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS
  • Assign and review laboratory tests and interpret results
  • Perform calculations to support geotechnical designs
  • Support preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals
  • Observe geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testing
  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical and materials testing field work
  • Prepare clear field reports and review lab/testing reports

Qualifications (Required)

  • 0–2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Positive attitude with ability to multi-task
  • Strong work ethic and desire for continual self-improvement
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel (assignments may last several months)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and safely navigate construction sites (enter trenches, climb ladders, work outdoors)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening

Preferred

  • Prior internship or professional experience in geotechnical engineering, construction, or civil engineering
  • Master’s degree
  • EIT certification

Compensation & benefits

  • Compensation range: $62,400 — $86,000 per year (range reflects geographic and experience-based variability)
