About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring Entry‑Level Field Service Engineers to join a national field team supporting capital equipment in the paper- and packaging-related industries. This is a remote, travel‑intensive role (75–100% travel) with company‑provided housing during an initial training period. After training, you may live anywhere in the U.S. (see Travel & Location Requirements).


What You’ll Do

  • Install, commission, upgrade, and service complex capital equipment at customer sites.
  • Program, debug, and troubleshoot PLC systems and other automation controls to optimize machine performance.
  • Diagnose electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical issues; perform routine and emergency repairs.
  • Provide on-site customer support, training, and technical handover to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, installation reports, and programming change logs.
  • Use assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, machine manuals, and technical procedures.
  • Identify and report defective materials or equipment; support continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while maintaining a safe, customer‑facing presence.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Controls, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Hands‑on PLC programming, debugging, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Practical knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Ability to read schematics, prints, ladder logic, and assembly layouts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; CAD/SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; multilingual ability is advantageous.
  • Able to work independently, travel extensively, and adapt to changing field conditions.

Training & Onboarding

  • Approximately 3 months of intensive, on‑site training at a Wisconsin facility (housing provided).
  • Training covers equipment systems, PLCs, commissioning practices, safety, and service processes.
  • After onboarding, technicians are expected to operate autonomously at customer sites nationwide.

Travel & Location Requirements

  • This role requires extensive travel—typically 75–100% (approximately 21 days per month on average).
  • Field Service Team members can live anywhere in the lower 48 U.S. states provided they are within ~2 hours of an airport.
  • Travel schedules are planned in advance; overnight stays and extended assignments (weeks at a time) are possible.
  • Employees coordinate their own business travel and retain travel reward benefits per company policy.
  • International travel may be available; candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid passport.

Compensation & Employment Type

  • Full‑time position.
  • Approximate pay range: $80,000–$90,000 per year (good‑faith estimate; final offer may vary based on experience and location).
  • Extended days/hours and occasional weekend/holiday work may be required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work occurs primarily at customer facilities and may involve exposure to dirt, oil, grease, and industrial environments.
  • Physical activities include standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Greater-than-50-lb lifting may require assistance or mechanical aid.
  • Field assignments require normal mental and visual attention and safe operation around machinery.
