Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer based in Waco, TX. This hands-on role rotates between field and office work supporting geotechnical and deep foundations projects across North America. Ideal candidates are recent graduates or early-career engineers in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical, or construction management who want practical experience in underground construction, project support, and estimating.


District Overview

Confidential Client self-performs complex geotechnical and foundation work across the U.S. and Canada on projects in transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications. Teams combine specialty equipment, field expertise, and estimating capabilities to deliver safe, constructible solutions for challenging site conditions.


What You’ll Do

Field Engineering

  • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity calculations by measuring progress and installed materials
  • Help prepare work plans and field work packages
  • Support field surveying and layout, including elevations, control points, and as-built data compilation
  • Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets and assist with JHAs
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and training
  • Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate work groups on site
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations when assigned

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents
  • Execute basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field activities
  • Prepare data and submittals for customers, vendors, subcontractors, and agencies
  • Participate in purchase order and subcontract preparation; assist with minor solicitations
  • Maintain project recordkeeping including daily reports, photos, RFIs, and memoranda
  • Enter data into the job cost system and help review cost reports with site management
  • Assist in generating change orders and as-built documentation for manager review

Estimating

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and review historical data to inform bids
  • Complete plan and specification reviews, highlighting risk areas to senior estimators
  • Assist with time studies, cost estimating, and estimate close-out activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
  • Strong desire to work in underground construction and deep foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and planning skills; strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require
  • Able to work independently and in teams; reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines

  • Field roles may be performed in varying conditions at multiple project locations
  • Typical schedule may require overtime and weekend work depending on project needs
  • This position provides exposure to both field operations and estimating functions and supports career growth across the district

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base compensation: $82,000 – $88,000 per year (actual pay varies by experience, education, and location)
