What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer to support underground and deep foundation construction projects. This hands-on role rotates between field and office work and includes site layout, quantity takeoffs, basic engineering support, estimating assistance, and day-to-day coordination of field crews. You’ll learn construction operations, safety practices, and how to deliver projects on time and on budget while gaining exposure to estimating and project controls.

  • Support field crews by interpreting drawings and specifications
  • Perform measurements, quantity calculations, and percentage-complete tracking
  • Assist with layout, surveying (elevations, control points), and as-built documentation
  • Help prepare work plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and daily reports
  • Process daily labor timesheets and maintain basic project records and correspondence
  • Order and schedule materials and coordinate deliveries with the site team
  • Assist in supervising subcontractor work and monitoring jobsite productivity
  • Perform material takeoffs, basic engineering calculations, and technical drafting in the office
  • Enter data into job cost systems and assist in review of cost reports
  • Support the estimating team with takeoffs, time studies, and bid preparation

Field / Office / Estimating Responsibilities (Detailed)

Field Engineering

  • Assist craft supervision by clarifying drawings and specifications
  • Perform on-site quantity checks and update percent-complete
  • Support site layout and surveying efforts; compile as-built data
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and mass safety events
  • Coordinate work packages, schedule crews, and arrange material deliveries

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from contract documents
  • Complete basic calculations and prepare technical draftings for field use
  • Help prepare submittals, RFIs, purchase orders, and minor subcontract documents
  • Maintain daily reports, photographs, and job correspondence
  • Update job cost entries and support change order documentation

Estimating

  • Assist in reviewing historical data to set productivity and cost baselines
  • Perform plan and specification reviews and identify risk areas
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and support the Senior Estimator during bid cycles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred (internships/co-ops count)
  • Strong desire to work in underground construction and deep foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and ability to plan ahead
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as project needs require
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in teams

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $82,000 – $88,000 per year (actual pay depends on experience, skills, and location)
