Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer to support geotechnical and underground construction projects across multiple U.S. locations. This hands-on role blends field work (surveying, layout, crew support) with office tasks (takeoffs, basic drafting, estimating support) and provides strong career growth and travel opportunities.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with interpretation of construction drawings and specifications to support field crews and craft supervision.
- Perform quantity calculations and material takeoffs from plans and contract documents.
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points) and compile as-built data.
- Prepare work plans, work packages, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), daily reports, and project documentation.
- Help schedule and coordinate materials, subcontractors, and on-site work groups.
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and site safety training.
- Enter data into job cost systems, assist with cost reports, and support change order preparation.
- Provide hands-on field support and supervise subcontractor operations when required.
- Assist estimating team with historical-data review, quantity takeoffs, and bid preparation.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations and submittals.
Who You Are / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering discipline (civil, geotechnical, mining, mechanical, construction management, or similar).
- Previous construction or mining experience is preferred but not required.
- Willingness to work in underground construction and geotechnical environments.
- Willing to travel and relocate across the U.S. as project needs require.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong work ethic, dependable transportation, and valid driver’s license.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Critical thinking and planning ability; able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Hands-on experience with field surveying tools and layout.
- Familiarity with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) preparation and safety documentation.
- Exposure to job cost systems, RFIs, and basic estimating tasks.
- Interest in long-term career growth in heavy civil, tunneling, or deep foundations work.
