Position Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field / Office Engineer to support underground, foundation, and other heavy civil construction projects. This early-career role combines field work and office support: you will assist site crews with layout and daily operations, perform takeoffs and basic engineering calculations, support estimating efforts, and help keep project records accurate. Expect travel between project locations; assignments may require relocation as projects move across North America.
District Overview
The project team self-performs complex geotechnical and foundation work for transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications projects. The group delivers constructible, cost-efficient solutions using specialty equipment and coordinated estimating and field resources. This role is well-suited for hands-on engineers who want a mix of field experience and office/estimating exposure.
Responsibilities
Field Engineering
- Assist interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations (measurements and percent complete for installed materials/work)
- Assist in preparation of work plans and work packages
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points, as-built compilation)
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets
- Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and safety training
- Help plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups; order and schedule material deliveries
- Provide field support, including supervising subcontractor work when assigned
Office Engineering
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Produce basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field teams
- Prepare data for submittals/transmittals to customers, vendors, and agencies
- Support purchase order/subcontract preparation and minor solicitations
- Maintain project recordkeeping: daily reports, photos, RFIs, memoranda, and as-built data
- Enter data into job-cost systems and assist in cost-report reviews
Estimating
- Assist with historical-data review and incorporate appropriate productivities and costs into bids
- Complete plan and specification reviews and highlight risk areas to senior estimators
- Perform material and quantity takeoffs for bid documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, construction management, or related field
- Previous construction or mining experience preferred
- Strong desire to work in underground/foundation construction
- Willingness to travel and relocate throughout your career as project needs dictate
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Critical thinking and planning skills
- Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to follow safety procedures and perform work safely; may include overtime and weekend work as needed

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Compensation: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual pay varies by experience, education, skillset, and location)
