About the Role

This is an entry-level Field / Office Engineer role supporting heavy civil and underground foundations work for a confidential client’s foundations team. You will split time between the jobsite and the district office performing field layout, quantity takeoffs, basic engineering calculations, recordkeeping, and supporting estimating and project management activities. This role is full-time and travel/relocation across North America is expected over the course of your career.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity calculations, measurements, and percent-complete assessments
  • Support preparation of work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Assist with field surveying, layout, elevation/control points, and as-built compilation
  • Help process daily labor timesheets and maintain project records (daily reports, photos, RFIs, memoranda)
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings and specifications
  • Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Assist in preparing submittals, purchase orders, and minor solicitations
  • Enter data into job-cost systems and participate in cost report reviews
  • Support estimating: historical data review, quantity takeoffs, and risk identification for bids
  • Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate on-site work groups
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations as directed
  • Participate in safety activities: toolbox talks, jobsite safety reviews, and training

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering/construction field
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
  • Strong desire to work in underground construction and foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in both field and office settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and planning ability
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel and relocate throughout your career as projects dictate

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $82,000 – $88,000 per year (actual pay varies based on experience, education, skills, and location)

Location & Travel

  • Primary work locations vary by project across the U.S. and Canada; early assignments may be in the Skyland / Tuscaloosa, AL area (postal code 35486)
  • Travel and potential relocation over the course of the role are expected as the confidential client operates on a national scale

  • Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain a safe work environment
  • May require overtime and weekend work as project schedules demand
