Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer based in San Antonio, TX. This full-time role combines field and office engineering duties supporting underground and deep foundations projects (transportation, water, power, mining, telecommunications). The role is ideal for recent graduates in civil, geotechnical, mechanical, mining engineering, or construction management who want hands-on site experience plus estimating and office support exposure.


What You’ll Do

Field Engineering

  • Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and tracking percent complete for installed materials and work.
  • Support preparation of work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Assist with field surveying and layout (elevations, control points) and compile as-built data.
  • Compile and verify daily labor timesheets and coordinate material deliveries.
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Provide field support for underground tunneling and foundation operations and supervise subcontractor activities as assigned.

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
  • Prepare data, submittals, transmittals, daily reports, photos, RFIs, and other project correspondence.
  • Enter data into job cost systems and assist in reviewing cost reports.
  • Support preparation of purchase orders, minor solicitations, and subcontract documentation.
  • Assist in generating change orders and maintaining as-built records.

Estimating

  • Assist in historical-data review, quantity takeoffs, and cost production for bids.
  • Support Senior Estimators with plan/spec reviews, risk identification, and bid close-out tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, mechanical, mining engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong desire to work in the underground construction / deep foundations industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Critical thinking, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual compensation varies by education, experience, skill set, and location).

  • Regular, reliable attendance; ability to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
