Position Overview
This role is an Entry Level Field/Office Engineer supporting heavy civil and underground foundation projects for a Confidential Client. You will split time between jobsite fieldwork and office engineering/estimating tasks. Projects include deep foundations, tunneling, transportation, and water/wastewater works. This is a full-time, hands-on engineering role suited to recent graduates or early-career engineers pursuing Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical, or Construction Management degrees.
What You’ll Do
Field Engineering
- Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations by measuring installed materials and estimating percent complete
- Help prepare work plans and work packages
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points) and compile as-built data
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets
- Assist in creating Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and support site safety activities
- Contribute to problem-solving for underground tunneling and construction operations
- Order and schedule material deliveries; help plan and coordinate work groups on site
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations as needed
Office Engineering
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents
- Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
- Help prepare submittals, transmittals, RFIs, daily reports, and project correspondence
- Support purchase order and subcontract preparation, and minor solicitations as requested
- Enter data into job cost systems and assist with cost report reviews
- Assist in generating change orders and updating as-built records
Estimating
- Assist in plan and specification review for assigned bids and identify risk areas
- Perform quantity takeoffs and incorporate historical production/cost data into estimates
- Support estimate reviews, time studies, and bid close-out activities
Who You Are (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree (or soon-to-be-graduated) in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
- Strong desire to work in underground/heavy civil construction
- Capability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proactive, strong work ethic, and able to work independently or within a team
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require (national scope)
- Critical thinking and planning skills

- Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to work overtime or weekends when project schedules require
- Ability to follow safety procedures, instructions, and site-specific requirements
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $82,000 – $88,000 per year (actual pay depends on education, experience, skillset, and location)

- This position supports projects across North America. The Confidential Client moves teams to where projects are located, so travel and relocation may be required during your career.
