Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer to support geotechnical and foundations work on heavy civil and underground construction projects. This full-time role is based in Okeechobee, FL and combines hands-on field support, office engineering, and estimating activities. The role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers pursuing degrees in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management who want a career that includes travel, on-site work, and technical development.


What You’ll Do

Field Engineering

  • Assist field crews by interpreting drawings and specifications
  • Take field measurements and calculate quantities; track percent complete
  • Support layout and surveying (elevations, control points) and compile as-built data
  • Prepare work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Collect and confirm daily labor timesheets and support site documentation
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety reviews, and safety training
  • Order and schedule materials; coordinate deliveries
  • Support supervision of subcontractor work and day-to-day site activities

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents
  • Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Compile submittals, RFIs, correspondence, daily reports, and project photos
  • Enter data into job-cost systems and assist with cost reporting
  • Support purchase order and subcontract preparation, minor solicitations, and scheduling
  • Assist in preparing as-built records and change order documentation

Estimating Support

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and review historical data to inform estimates
  • Complete plan/spec reviews and identify project risks for senior estimators
  • Participate in estimate reviews, time studies, and bid close-out activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
  • Strong desire to work in underground/geotechnical construction
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and in teams
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as project needs require
  • Regular, reliable attendance and ability to work overtime/weekends when required
  • Commitment to safe work practices and following written/oral instructions

Location, Schedule & Travel

  • Primary job location: Okeechobee, FL (worksite conditions vary)
  • Field roles require on-site presence and may involve varied locations and schedules
  • This role operates on a national scale—travel and relocation during your career may be required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base compensation: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual pay varies by experience, education, and location)
