Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field / Office Engineer to support complex geotechnical and underground construction projects across multiple project locations (including sites in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, TN, and TX). This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who wants hands-on field experience, office engineering exposure, and exposure to estimating and project support on heavy civil projects.
Compensation (estimated): $80,599 per year — estimated.
Employment type: Full-time.
Locations: Multiple (primary recruiting area: New Orleans / Harahan, LA and surrounding project sites). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
What You’ll Do
- Assist field crews and craft supervision by interpreting drawings and specifications.
- Take measurements and perform quantity calculations to determine percent complete for installed materials and work.
- Help prepare work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Support field surveying and layout (elevation, control points) and compile as-built data.
- Compile, process, and confirm daily labor timesheets.
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and site safety training.
- Order and schedule material deliveries; plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on site.
- Provide field supervision and support for subcontractor operations.
- Perform office engineering tasks: material takeoffs, basic engineering calculations, technical drafting, and project recordkeeping (daily reports, photos, RFIs, memoranda).
- Enter data into the job cost system and assist in reviewing cost reports with site management.
- Assist in generating change orders and preparing as-built documentation for Project Manager review.
- Support estimating: perform plan/spec reviews, material and quantity takeoffs, and analyze historical data to inform bids.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering discipline (civil, geotechnical, mining, mechanical) or construction management.
- Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required—strong interest in underground construction is essential.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong work ethic and problem-solving ability.
- Reliable transportation to/from work and a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require (Confidential Client operates nationally).
- Critical thinking and the ability to plan ahead and conceptualize project tasks.
