What You’ll Do

This entry-level Field / Office Engineer role combines hands-on field support with office-based estimating and project engineering tasks for underground and deep foundations work. You will support project teams, learn construction processes, and gain experience across estimating, field layout, and project controls.

Field Engineering

  • Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity calculations by measuring installed materials and estimating percent complete
  • Support work plan and work package preparation
  • Assist with field surveying, layout (elevations, control points) and compiling as-built data
  • Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets and site records
  • Help prepare Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in safety meetings
  • Provide field support for tunneling and underground construction operations
  • Order and schedule material deliveries; help coordinate subcontractors and on-site work groups
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks and safety training

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specs and contract documents
  • Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Prepare data for submittals and transmittals to customers, vendors and agencies
  • Assist with purchase orders, minor solicitations and subcontract paperwork
  • Maintain project recordkeeping: daily reports, photos, RFIs and correspondence
  • Enter data into job cost systems and support cost reporting and review meetings
  • Assist in creating as-built records and change order documentation for manager review

Estimating

  • Assist in historical data review and incorporate appropriate production and cost rates into bids
  • Perform plan and specification reviews for assigned projects and highlight risk areas
  • Complete material and quantity takeoffs to support the district estimating unit

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering discipline (Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical) or Construction Management
  • Prior construction or mining experience is preferred but not required
  • Strong desire to work in underground construction and deep foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic; able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Critical thinking and planning ability
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require (national-scale operations)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual pay may vary by experience, education, skills, and location)

Location & Travel

  • This role supports projects across North America. The primary posting is for the Little Rock / Cammack Village, AR area, but projects and assignments may require travel, multi-site work, and potential relocation over the course of your career. The confidential client operates nationally — expect opportunities to work in varied locations and environments.
