Position Overview
This is an entry-level Field / Office Engineer role supporting underground and deep foundations projects for a Confidential Client operating across North America. The role blends hands-on fieldwork, office engineering support, and district estimating activities. Candidates should be pursuing or hold a degree in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management and be willing to travel and relocate as projects require.
What You’ll Do
- Support field crews by interpreting drawings and specifications, performing layout, and compiling as-built and survey data.
- Calculate quantities and percent complete for materials and installed work.
- Help prepare work plans, work packages, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and maintain daily field records (timesheets, photos, daily reports).
- Assist with field safety activities: toolbox talks, jobsite safety reviews, and training.
- Order and schedule materials, coordinate deliveries, and support subcontractor supervision.
- Perform office engineering tasks: material takeoffs, basic engineering calculations, drafting support, and submittal preparation.
- Enter data in job cost systems, assist with cost report reviews, and support change order preparation.
- Support the estimating team with plan/spec reviews, quantity takeoffs, historical-data analysis, and bid preparation.
- Participate in project and estimating reviews; provide practical, constructible recommendations for field operations.
Who You Are (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
- Prior construction or mining experience preferred but not required.
- Comfortable working in the underground construction industry and willing to be both field- and office-based.
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and able to work independently and on teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel and relocate during your career as projects dictate.
- Critical thinking and basic planning skills.
Nice-to-Have / Other Experience
- Field surveying or layout experience.
- Familiarity with job cost systems, RFIs, and change order processes.
- Prior exposure to tunneling, deep foundations, or heavy civil construction.
Location & Travel
- Primary job location: Lake Charles, LA (project locations vary). Confidential Client operates nationally — assignments can take you across the U.S. and sometimes into Canada. Flexibility to travel and relocate is expected for this role.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Compensation: $82,000 — $88,000 per year (actual pay may vary by experience, education, skills, and location).
