Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Field Engineer who will split time between field and office work on complex underground and foundation projects. This hands-on role supports construction operations, estimating, and project engineering—ideal for recent graduates in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, or construction management who want broad exposure and travel opportunities.


District Overview

Confidential Client delivers geotechnical and foundation solutions across North America, using specialized equipment and multi-disciplinary teams. Projects include transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications. Expect to work on varying site conditions and to support both small- and large-scale projects.


What You’ll Do

Field Engineering

  • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percent complete for installed materials and work
  • Assist in preparing work plans and work packages
  • Support field surveying and layout including elevations, control points, and as-built data collection
  • Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets
  • Help prepare Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Provide practical solutions for underground tunneling and construction operations
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  • Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate work groups and subcontractors on site

Office Engineering

  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Carry out basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Prepare data packages, submittals, and transmittals for customers, vendors, subcontractors, and agencies
  • Assist with purchase orders, subcontracts, and minor solicitations as requested
  • Maintain project recordkeeping: daily reports, photos, RFIs, and correspondence
  • Enter data into job cost systems and support cost report reviews
  • Help generate change orders and update as-built documentation

Estimating

  • Review historical data and incorporate production rates and costs during bid preparation
  • Complete plan and specification reviews, identify risk areas, and report to the Senior Estimator
  • Perform quantity takeoffs per bid documents and support bid close-out activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
  • Strong desire to work in underground construction and foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as projects require (national-scale operations)
  • Strong work ethic, critical thinking, and ability to plan ahead

Other Requirements & Work Environment

  • Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work safely around construction equipment
  • May be required to work overtime or weekends
  • FIELD ROLES ONLY: work locations and conditions will vary; may involve exposure to weather and construction environments

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Compensation: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual pay will vary by experience, education, skillset, and location)
