Position Overview
This full-time position is an entry-level Field/Office Engineer role supporting heavy civil and underground foundation projects for a confidential client. You’ll split time between jobsite and office tasks: supporting field layout and construction operations, producing basic engineering calculations and drawings, and contributing to estimating and cost tracking. This role is ideal for recent graduates (Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical, or Construction Management) who want hands-on exposure to tunneling, deep foundations, and specialty underground work.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations, take measurements, and determine percent complete for installed materials
- Help prepare work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points) and compile as-built data
- Collect and confirm daily labor timesheets and maintain basic project recordkeeping (daily reports, photos, RFIs)
- Order and schedule material deliveries and help coordinate on-site work groups
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations as assigned
- Perform material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations and drafting to support field operations
- Assist in preparing submittals and transmittals to customers, vendors, and agencies
- Participate in preparing purchase orders, minor solicitations, and subcontract documentation
- Enter data into the job cost system and support review of cost reports with jobsite management
- Assist estimating: review specs, perform quantity takeoffs, analyze historical data, and support bid close-out activities
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and safety trainings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Prior construction or mining experience preferred but not required
- Strong desire to work in underground construction, tunneling, or deep foundations
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with basic drafting preferred
- Strong communication (written and verbal), critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and handle changing site conditions
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required
- Willingness to travel and relocate as project needs dictate (national-scale operations)
- Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to work overtime/weekends as required for project schedules
Location & Travel
This role will support projects across North America. The confidential client operates nationally; assignments may require travel or relocation depending on project locations. Field roles will encounter varying site conditions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay: $82,000 – $88,000 per year (actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, location, and skillset)
