Position Overview

This Entry Level Field Engineer role for a confidential client is a hands-on field and office position supporting underground, deep foundations, and geotechnical construction projects. You will help translate design documents to field execution, support estimating and project controls, and participate in safety and quality processes. The role offers exposure to large, complex projects across North America and frequent opportunities for travel and career growth.

District Overview

The confidential client self-performs complex geotechnical and foundation work across the U.S. and Canada, delivering constructible, cost-efficient solutions for transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications projects. You’ll work with specialty equipment and experienced construction teams to solve site-specific challenges and help build major infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Field Engineering

• Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
• Perform quantity calculations and progress measurements
• Support preparation of work plans and work packages
• Assist with field surveying, layout (elevations and control points), and as-built data collection
• Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets; assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
• Participate in safety reviews, toolbox talks, and site trainings
• Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate work groups on site
• Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations when required

Office Engineering

• Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents
• Execute basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
• Help prepare submittals, transmittals, RFIs, daily reports, and project records
• Enter data into job cost systems; assist with cost report reviews
• Support preparation of purchase orders, subcontracts, and minor purchasing as directed

Estimating

• Assist in historical data review and production/cost incorporation for bids
• Complete plan and specification reviews; identify and raise risk areas to senior estimators
• Perform material and quantity takeoffs for bid preparation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, or construction management (or related)
• Prior construction or mining experience preferred but not required
• Strong desire to work in the underground construction/foundations industry
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving ability
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• Willingness to travel and relocate over the course of a career

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $82,000 / year - $88,000 / year (actual pay varies by experience, location, and qualifications)

Other Requirements & Working Conditions

• Regular, reliable attendance and timely completion of assigned work

• FIELD ROLES ONLY: work at varying jobsite locations and conditions; travel is common
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team; communicate professionally with supervisors, employees, and stakeholders
