Position Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry Level Field Engineer to support underground, deep foundations, and tunneling projects. This hands-on role rotates between field and office work and offers strong career growth, travel opportunities, and exposure to estimating and project management functions. Typical work includes interpreting construction drawings, supporting field crews, performing quantity takeoffs, and assisting in project cost control.

District Overview

Confidential Client self-performs complex geotechnical and foundation work across North America. Projects span transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications. You’ll work with specialty equipment, multidisciplinary teams, and experienced construction professionals on projects that vary in scale and complexity.

Location

Work locations vary by project. The role is based out of project sites and district offices across the U.S. Projects may be in urban or rural settings; travel and relocation during your career may be required.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Field Engineering

• Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
• Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percent complete for installed work
• Help prepare work plans and work packages
• Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points, as-built data)
• Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets
• Assist in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
• Provide practical solutions for underground tunneling and construction operations
• Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks, and mandatory safety training
• Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate work groups
• Supervise select field operations and subcontractor activities as directed

Office Engineering

• Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
• Prepare data for submittals/transmittals to customers, vendors, subcontractors, and agencies
• Assist with purchase orders, subcontracts, minor solicitations, and project recordkeeping
• Enter data into job cost systems and assist with cost report reviews
• Help generate change orders and prepare as-built documentation

Estimating

• Review historical data and incorporate production/cost metrics into bids
• Perform plan and specification reviews to identify risk areas for senior estimators
• Complete material and quantity takeoffs per bid documents

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
• Strong interest in underground construction and foundations work
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Proactive, strong work ethic, and able to work independently and in teams
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• Critical thinking skills with ability to plan ahead and visualize tasks

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Compensation: $82,000/yr - $88,000/yr (actual pay depends on experience, education, skills, and location)
