Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Entry Level Field Engineer to join their Field Operations team supporting underground and foundation construction projects. This is a hands-on role that blends field and office engineering tasks, estimating support, and on-site coordination. The position is based in Baton Rouge, LA and will involve travel and potential relocation over the course of your career.
District Overview
Confidential Client performs complex geotechnical and foundation projects across North America, delivering constructible, cost-effective solutions for transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications infrastructure. You’ll join a team that uses specialty equipment and deep engineering expertise to build high-profile, technically challenging projects.
Responsibilities
Field Engineering
- Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and tracking percent complete
- Help prepare work plans and work packages
- Support field surveying and layout (elevation, control points) and compile as-built data
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets
- Assist in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Support underground tunneling and construction solutions
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training
- Order and schedule material deliveries
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate on-site work groups
- Supervise field operations and provide subcontractor oversight as directed
Office Engineering
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents
- Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field crews
- Prepare data for submittals/transmittals to customers, vendors, and agencies
- Help prepare purchase orders and minor solicitations
- Maintain project recordkeeping: daily reports, photos, RFIs, memos
- Enter data into job-cost systems and assist in cost report reviews
- Assist in generating change orders and as-built documentation
Estimating
- Assist in analyzing historical data, productions, and costs for bid preparation
- Complete plan and specification reviews for assigned projects and identify risk areas
- Perform material and quantity takeoffs for bid documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- Previous construction or mining experience preferred but not required
- Strong desire to work in the underground construction industry
- Willingness to travel and relocate during your career; projects occur nationwide
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and on teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Critical thinking skills and ability to plan ahead

- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required

Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $82,000/yr – $88,000/yr (actual pay varies by experience, education, skillset, and location)
