Role Overview

Confidential Client is recruiting an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to join their Environment/Engineering team in Manhattan, NY. This early-career, full-time role supports environmental compliance, remediation, permitting, and planning projects. The position is hybrid (office + field), may require extended travel for projects, and is expected to start in May–July 2027.


Hiring Event (Manhattan, NY — October 15–16)

Confidential Client is hosting an invitation-only hiring event in Manhattan on October 15–16:

  • Networking mixer: Thursday evening (6–8 PM) — meet staff and learn about projects and career paths.
  • Interviews: Friday at the Manhattan office.
  • Hiring timeline: Candidates selected at the event may be considered for roles beginning May–July 2027.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

You will support project teams by performing both field and office tasks under supervision:

  • Conduct hazardous building materials surveys (asbestos, lead paint) and prepare survey reports
  • Provide abatement oversight during remediation activities
  • Collect and analyze environmental samples (stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste)
  • Prepare technical memoranda, environmental reports, and reporting forms
  • Perform site visits for federal, industrial, and municipal clients
  • Use software tools to support basic engineering and environmental analyses
  • Support design work, sketches, and calculations under senior supervision
  • Work to cost and schedule targets under guidance; travel locally and occasionally out-of-state as project needs dictate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Ecology, Biology, or related discipline — or equivalent experience
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this role
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Availability for both fieldwork and office work; ability to travel (1 week to 3 months, when required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • General knowledge of basic engineering and environmental sciences
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional client-facing demeanor
  • Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team
  • Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions
  • Willingness to learn on the job and grow technical skills

Compensation, Location & Additional Details

  • Location: Manhattan, NY (Confidential Client office; hybrid work model)
  • Compensation: USD 60,000 – USD 80,000 per year
  • Relocation assistance: Not available
  • Onboarding requirement: In-person Day 1 onboarding at a Confidential Client office is required for newly hired employees
