Entry Level Engineer
The Entry Level Distribution Engineer will support power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects for major utilities in Florida, performing engineering calculations and design tasks such as structural analysis, cable replacement, and pole assessments. This role requires foundational knowledge of electric utility systems, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders on-site in Maitland, FL.

What You’ll Do
This role supports power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm-hardening projects across Florida. You will work on engineering calculations and designs to modernize distribution systems and help deliver safe, reliable electrical service.
- Perform engineering calculations and design for replacing deteriorating cable, converting overhead lines to underground, reconductoring distribution lines, and replacing aging poles
- Complete structural analysis of poles and guying, evaluate cable pulling requirements, and calculate electric demand and fault currents
- Coordinate protection-device settings and conduct coordination studies
- Use industry design software and support preparation of construction drawings and specifications
- Collaborate with utilities, developers, field construction crews, and other stakeholders to resolve design and constructability issues
- Support project documentation, technical recommendations, and periodic client communications
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a 4-year ABET-accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil)
- Basic knowledge of electric utility distribution concepts, including primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards
- Familiarity with design software packages and general construction practices
- Understanding of core engineering theories and ability to research and evaluate design alternatives
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to interact frequently with customers
- Self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT / Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Experience performing distribution design on the Duke system or similar utility systems
- Experience working with customers and developers on distribution projects
- Knowledge of BOUD/Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and Microstation
- Leadership or customer-facing experience from any industry
Employment Type & Location
This is a contract-to-hire, full-time position. The role is fully onsite in Maitland, FL.
Compensation
- Pay range: $26.00 - $26.00 per hour (hourly rate shown is the employer-provided range)
- Final compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic factors, and other job-related considerations
