What You’ll Do

This Entry Level Electrical / Electrical Controls Engineer role supports design, programming, commissioning, and field support of custom automated manufacturing systems. You will produce electrical schematics and layouts, program and test PLCs and HMIs, support system start-up at customer sites, troubleshoot control systems, and collaborate with project teams to deliver automation solutions on time and to spec.

• Design and program industrial automation and control systems for custom manufacturing applications.
• Create detailed electrical schematics and system layouts using AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools.
• Program, test, and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley experience preferred) and HMIs to ensure reliable operation.
• Manage assigned work from design through installation and handover, maintaining scope and schedule.
• Support on-site commissioning, system startup, tuning, and performance verification.
• Troubleshoot automation equipment both remotely and at customer sites to resolve issues quickly.
• Maintain clear project documentation for designs, programs, and system changes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of control system standards and programming templates.
• Communicate regularly with customers, production teams, and stakeholders to clarify requirements and provide status updates.

Who You Are / Required Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience (academic, internship, or early-career) with industrial controls and automation systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical design software.
• Practical PLC programming experience and familiarity with Allen‑Bradley PLC platforms.
• Experience or coursework with HMI and machine control programming, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for control systems and automation equipment.
• Ability to manage project tasks through design, startup and installation while meeting deadlines.
• Clear and effective communicator able to work with customers and cross-functional teams.
• Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as required.

• Experience in manufacturing, machine building, or systems integration.
• Familiarity with broader industrial automation concepts and control engineering best practices.
• Customer-facing experience and the ability to build relationships with external stakeholders.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Work Environment

You will work in engineering and manufacturing settings and spend time on production floors during installation and commissioning. Typical activities include hands-on work with PLCs, HMIs, and custom automated systems, electrical schematic creation, and travel to customer sites to support startups and troubleshooting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract-to-Hire opportunity based in Fredericktown, MO. The role is primarily onsite and requires travel to customer facilities as needed.

• Pay range: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour.
