Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Electrical Design Engineer to join their switchgear and generator control systems team in East Peoria, IL. This full-time role focuses on designing low- and medium-voltage switchgear and control solutions that meet customer specifications and applicable codes. The posting includes a salary range of $82,900 - $132,600 USD (based on Illinois location).
What You’ll Do
- Interpret project write-ups, customer specifications, drawings, and correspondence
- Research and create Bill of Material (BOM)
- Coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to specify and approve component parts and assemblies
- Create AC/DC schematics, component layouts, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams for submittals, construction drawings, and as-builts
- Complete project design to meet customer specifications and applicable codes (NFPA, NEC, UL standards)
- Coordinate with production, testing, field service, and programmers for hardware selection and integration
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and testing teams
- Establish and document standard design processes; complete design reviews for accuracy and completeness
- Research and adopt relevant new technologies for projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 0–2+ years relevant experience; 2+ years in power generation preferred
- Experience with CAD/ECAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo (Pro-E), or EPLAN
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, and UL design requirements (e.g., UL891, UL1558, UL508A, UL Medium Voltage)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organization, planning, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and in teams
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with grid interconnect requirements
- Familiarity with PV, wind, or other distributed energy generation and storage systems
- Hands-on experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscope, function generator)
- Analog circuit and magnetic component design/specification experience
- Familiarity with third-party certification/testing (NRTL, environmental)
- Project management experience
Physical & Work Environment
- Office and manufacturing shop environment; may require periods of computer-based work and shop floor interaction
- Regularly required to talk and hear; use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls; stand and walk
- Occasionally stoop, bend, reach above shoulders; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- Travel as needed
- Typical manufacturing hazards may include noise exposure, slip/trip/fall, ergonomic and eye hazards
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range (based on Illinois location): $82,900 - $132,600 USD per year
- Final pay depends on candidate experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location
- Eligible for variable compensation including short-term and long-term incentives
