Entry Level Design Engineer
The Entry Level Distribution Design Engineer will support upgrades to major energy providers' distribution grids by developing construction plans, scheduling project work, and creating work packages. This role involves field work to collect data and design construction plans using GIS, CAD, and WMS tools, as well as performing engineering calculations related to structural and electrical aspects of the projects.

What You’ll Do
Join Confidential Client as an Entry Level Distribution Design Engineer supporting electric distribution grid upgrades. You will help develop construction work packages and construction plans, manage scope and schedules for assigned projects, and own field data collection and as-built documentation. This is a primarily remote role based in Pittsburgh, PA with periodic field work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare construction plans and detailed work packages for electric distribution projects.
- Schedule work and coordinate scope with project teams and contractors.
- Bill and track material needs for assigned projects.
- Perform field visits to take notes, measurements, and photos; translate field data into design deliverables.
- Use GIS, CAD, and Work Management Systems to create and update project documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations as needed (pole structural checks, guying, cable pulling estimates, transformer sizing, voltage drop/flicker analysis, protective device coordination).
- Communicate design intent and schedule impacts to internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated interest in electric distribution design and construction planning.
- Comfortable working in a remote setting and able to perform occasional field work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Familiarity with distribution system engineering concepts (transformer sizing, load calculations, voltage drop).
- Experience with GIS and CAD tools applied to utility design.
- Prior exposure to Work Management Systems (WMS) or construction tracking systems.
- Basic structural analysis skills for poles and guying.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments under supervision.

Compensation & Schedule
- Estimated salary: $71,373 per year (estimated). This is a full-time role. Exact pay and benefits will be provided by Confidential Client during the hiring process and may vary by experience and location.
Location & Travel
- Remote-first position with regular travel to field sites as required. Primary location for hiring and occasional on-site work: Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates must be able to travel locally for field assignments and have reliable means to do so.
