Position overview

This is an entry-level Design Engineer role supporting gas distribution and transmission projects. The position offers hybrid work flexibility (office-based with site visits and in-person meetings). You will join a multidisciplinary gas programs team working on main replacements, public improvements, pipelines, regulator stations, and trenchless installations.


What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to engineering designs for high‑pressure gas distribution and transmission projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations and evaluate routing and alignment alternatives.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and assist in preparing bid documents.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, designers, drafters, and field crews to produce coordinated deliverables.
  • Support permitting, specifications, and technical submittals as required.
  • Participate in occasional site visits, field investigations, and client meetings.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license without restrictions (for occasional project/site visits).
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred qualifications

  • 0–4 years of engineering experience, preferably with natural gas or utility engineering in a consulting environment.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other 2D/3D modeling tools (knowledge of drafters’ software is valuable even if drafting is not a primary duty).
  • Strong problem solving, written/verbal communication, and teamwork skills.

Compensation & benefits

  • Base salary: $68,000 — $73,000 per year (exempt). Specific salary within this range will depend on work location, experience, and internal equity.
  • Benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, voluntary life/disability and supplemental plans, HSA/FSA options, dependent care and transportation/parking FSAs where applicable.
