What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level Data Scientist to work on graph-focused data engineering and machine-learning tasks. You will apply academic training to real-world problems and grow under experienced mentorship.

• Design, implement, and optimize graph algorithms and data structures for decision support and classification systems
• Develop and evaluate algorithms for encoding/embedding, clustering, outlier detection, community detection, and dimensionality reduction
• Build and maintain distributed training pipelines capable of handling very large graphs (100M+ elements)
• Write queries and stored procedures for data loading, migration, and retrieval
• Produce technical documentation and contribute to white papers and project deliverables
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research and models into production-ready solutions

What We’re Looking For

Required education and core skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field with coursework in graph theory, algorithms, and data structures
• Demonstrated passion for data science and eagerness to learn new techniques
• Working knowledge of Python
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, and self-motivation

One or more of the following skillsets is highly desirable:

• Experience with graph libraries and ML graph frameworks (e.g., PyTorch Geometric, DGL, GDS)
• Proficiency with data libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib
• Experience with Azure Databricks or similar distributed data platforms
• Familiarity with graph algorithms and large-scale graph processing techniques
• Software development best practices and software testing methodologies
• Experience with graph query languages (Cypher, Gremlin)

Work Arrangement & Compensation

• Full-time (40 hours/week); the initial three months will be a temporary hourly engagement with the possibility of conversion to full-time based on performance and business needs
• Candidates must be able to work on-site at Confidential Client’s Mount Rainier, MD office at least three days per week
• Estimated compensation: $120,992 per year (estimated)
• Full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) match (terms vary by hire and plan)
