What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential to conduct federal criminal, civil, and administrative investigations. This entry-level investigator role in Spokane, WA will contribute to regional investigative operations, working with a team to identify, investigate, and document potential criminal activity and statutory violations.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct field and desk investigations into alleged criminal, civil, or administrative violations.
- Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence (documents, digital records, witness statements).
- Plan and execute interviews and surveillances as appropriate.
- Prepare clear, concise investigative reports and present findings orally and in writing.
- Coordinate with prosecutors, law enforcement partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Travel as needed to support investigative activities (up to 50% travel).
- Participate in training, including a required federal criminal investigator training program.
Salary & Compensation
- Salary range: $57,487 — $82,730 per year (includes locality pay).
- Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) authorized (paid after successful completion of required federal training).
- Grade advertised: Journey Band equivalent to GS‑7 through GS‑9 (final grade and salary will depend on education and professional experience).
- Relocation expenses will not be paid.
Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
You must meet ALL minimum qualifications to be considered:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or proof of degree prior to start date).
- Eligible applicants must meet the client’s hiring-eligibility criteria (this vacancy is limited to specified federal postal oversight/inspection workforce categories — only eligible applicants will be considered).
- Demonstrated potential to conduct federal criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.
- Submit latest performance appraisal with at least a satisfactory rating (or provide explanation if not available); student cooperatives must submit a management recommendation letter.
- Must successfully complete a 12-week Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or equivalent federal law enforcement academy.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and not have reached 37th birthday at the time of initial appointment to a law enforcement position (per applicable hiring rules).
- Must qualify for and maintain authorization to carry firearms (no current or prior domestic violence convictions that disqualify firearm authorization).
- Maintain physical, mental, and emotional standards necessary for law enforcement duties.
- Maintain eligibility to operate government vehicles.
- Willingness to work irregular and unscheduled hours, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to relocate at the direction of management if required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Advanced academic degree (e.g., MA, MS, JD).
- Knowledge of postal or logistics operations and procedures.
- Prior law enforcement, investigative, or military experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams and with external partners.
