Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Criminal Investigator to join their Office of Investigations in Spokane, WA. This is an entry-level federal law-enforcement investigator role (Journey Band / GS-7 to GS-9 equivalent) focused on criminal, civil, and administrative investigations. The role requires completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) and the ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret clearance.

What you’ll do

The successful candidate will:

• Perform factual research and gather evidence for federal criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.
• Conduct interviews, surveillance, and other investigative tasks under the direction of senior investigators.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports, affidavits, and case files suitable for administrative or prosecutorial review.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders — including other law-enforcement entities — to develop leads and resolve cases.
• Travel as required to support field investigations (up to 50% travel).
• Participate in required training, including a 12-week FLETC CITP program or equivalent federal academy.

Qualifications & requirements

Minimum qualifications (all required):

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or proof of degree prior to start date).
• Current career or student-cooperative employment with a federal postal oversight or designated partner agency as specified in the vacancy eligibility (applicants must meet the announcement’s eligibility rules).
• Demonstrated potential to conduct federal criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.
• Latest performance appraisal with at least a satisfactory rating, or, if not available, a written explanation; student cooperatives must supply a management recommendation letter.

Conditions of employment:

• Must pass drug screening and periodic/random drug tests.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and pass a background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain a government-issued credit card.
• Must successfully complete FLETC CITP (12-week criminal investigator course) prior to or after appointment as required.
• Must meet age requirement for initial appointment to federal law enforcement (must be at least 21 and not have reached 37th birthday at time of appointment) and other legally required fitness/medical standards.
• Must qualify and maintain authorization to carry firearms (no current or prior domestic violence convictions).
• Must be able to work unscheduled and irregular hours, including overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Selectee may be subject to a 12-month probationary period.
• Relocation expenses will not be paid; relocation authorization is No.

Desirable (preferred) qualifications:

• Advanced academic degree.
• Knowledge of postal service operations.
• Prior or current law-enforcement or military experience.

Compensation & travel

• This position is advertised at the Journey Band level (GS-7 to GS-9 equivalent). Salary range (including locality): $57,487 - $82,730 per year.
• Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) is authorized (25% of base pay) after successful completion of required training; LEAP is not included until training is complete.
• Travel up to 50% may be required.
