What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Cost Engineer to support supply-chain cost analysis, should-cost modeling, BOM cost roll-ups, and capacity tracking in a fast-moving hardware/structures environment. This is a hands-on role that works across procurement, manufacturing, engineering, commodity management, and finance.

  • Assist with BOM cost roll-ups and forecasting across procurement, manufacturing, transportation, and distribution.
  • Help build and maintain should-cost and cost models to evaluate scenario impacts on BOM cost.
  • Research and summarize market trends for key cost drivers (raw materials, labor, logistics) to support forecasting.
  • Compile and maintain supply and production capacity data across commodities to support capacity planning.
  • Support development and upkeep of cost/capacity tracking tools or dashboards (e.g., Smartsheet, Quickbase, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Prepare clear, data-driven reports and visuals for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to gather cost structure information and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Maintain project tracking so cost and capacity data stays current; participate in ad-hoc projects and process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • ~1–3 years relevant experience (internships, projects, or full-time experience in cost analysis, supply chain, or similar analytical roles).
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with BOM or cost data in spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or supply chain planning software.
  • Exposure to PLM systems is a plus.
  • Experience with dashboard or database tools (Tableau, Power BI, Smartsheet, Quickbase) is desirable.
  • Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Interest in learning should-cost modeling, capacity planning, and supplier engagement practices.
  • Experience using LLMs (e.g., Claude) to assist analysis/reporting is a plus but not required.

Compensation & Location

  • Estimated salary: $65,748 per year (estimated).
  • Employment type: Full time (Contractor + Full Time listed in source).
  • This is a hybrid role based at the Confidential Client HQ in Menlo Park, CA — onsite presence will be required as needed for testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing support.
  • Compensation is adjusted for local market and experience. Confidential Client may offer equity (RSUs) and benefits.

Why Join

  • Gain hands-on experience in supply-chain cost engineering inside a fast-paced hardware/structures environment.
  • Work cross-functionally and build skills in should-cost modeling, BOM analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Opportunity for rapid growth and increased ownership as you develop domain knowledge and tools expertise.
