What You’ll Do
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Engineer to support construction materials testing and inspection work in Pineville, NC. Working under the direction of a Licensed Engineer, you will help ensure construction quality and public safety by performing field and laboratory testing, documenting observations, and supporting project reporting.
- Perform field and lab tests on construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry) and support special inspections to verify compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Log and manage soil and material samples; maintain accurate field records and test logs using Metafield® or similar management systems.
- Review construction plans and specifications to confirm testing and observation needs, and perform on-site observations as projects progress.
- Assist with engineering calculations, basic designs, and technical analyses under supervision.
- Help prepare clear, accurate technical reports, test summaries, and proposals for smaller projects.
- Communicate regularly with project managers, contractors, and clients to document progress and resolve basic technical questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 0–2 years of experience in construction materials testing, special inspections, or related field/lab work (soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry).
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification — or actively pursuing EIT — is required or expected.
- Willingness to obtain at least one industry certification (e.g., ACI, NICET, ASTM-related) within the first 6 months of employment.
- Basic competency in math and effective written/verbal communication in English.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites in the Pineville / Charlotte area as required.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
- Work outdoors frequently in varying weather conditions; ability to walk over rough or uneven terrain and remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry 40–50 lbs (samples and equipment); use company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Occasional work outside normal business hours when project needs require.
- Must meet Fleet Management and substance policy requirements if driving company vehicles.
