What You’ll Do
Join a mission-driven engineering team developing, deploying, and maintaining mission‑critical software installed aboard naval vessels and related facilities. In this entry‑level role you will:
- Design, implement, and maintain software components for onboard systems.
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust solutions.
- Write and maintain automated unit tests and participate in test‑driven development.
- Support containerized deployments and tooling (Docker, Kubernetes) for operational environments.
- Work with database schemas and data persistence layers to support application features.
- Participate in code reviews, configuration management, and continuous integration workflows.
- Learn security, safety, and reliability practices required for classified or restricted systems under guidance and mentorship.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field — or a Master’s degree in one of these disciplines.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation and meet eligibility for access to classified matter, as applicable.
- Willingness to comply with government contractor drug‑testing policies (including federal prohibition on marijuana).
Preferred Skills
- Development experience in one or more languages: C#, Java, Python, Go, or similar.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices and lifecycle models (Agile, CI/CD).
- Experience or coursework with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience writing automated unit tests and practicing test‑driven development.
- Working knowledge of relational or NoSQL database architectures.
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a desire to learn from senior engineers.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $63,900 - $97,800 annually (range provided by the client; final salary depends on experience and qualifications).

- This position is expected to be full‑time and based in Niskayuna, NY.
- The hiring client is a government contractor supporting the U.S. Department of Energy / Naval Nuclear Propulsion programs; work may require compliance with government security and safety standards.
