Position Summary

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry Level Civil Water Engineer to join their Birmingham, AL engineering team focused on water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. This is an early-career, full-time opportunity for a recent Civil Engineering graduate to gain hands-on design and construction experience on municipal water projects.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with planning and design of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations for hydraulics modeling, pipelines, pump stations, and treatment facilities.
  • Support preparation of engineering reports, technical studies, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Help develop drawings and design packages in coordination with project leads.
  • Conduct data collection, site visits, and field investigations.
  • Support construction administration: review submittals, respond to contractor questions, and perform field inspections.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams (environmental, structural, electrical, mechanical).
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost estimating, and budget tracking.
  • Ensure work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and quality standards.

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Relevant coursework or project experience in hydraulics, water/wastewater treatment, or conveyance systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.
  • Willingness to perform field work and site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship, co-op, or research experience in water/wastewater, municipal infrastructure, or construction projects.
  • Exposure to engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, or InfoWater.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles and construction practices.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate or demonstrated ability to obtain EIT within the first year.

Compensation (Estimated)

  • Estimated annual salary (source): $50,729 per year — actual compensation will be determined by Confidential Client based on experience and qualifications and in accordance with applicable law.
