Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level Civil/Highway Engineer to join their Transportation team in Newark, DE (postal code 19725). This early-career role supports highway and roadway design projects—roadway rehabilitation, intersection improvements, limited access highway widening/reconstruction, and related traffic/ADA elements. The position reports to a Project Engineer and is a hybrid, full-time role based in the Newark, DE office.
What You’ll Do
You will work as part of a multi-discipline design team to develop engineering plans and documentation for transportation projects. Typical responsibilities include:
- Obtain and review existing information, including limited field work and site investigations
- Prepare and originate technical calculations that support project design
- Assist with roadway construction plans, intersection grading, traffic control/staging, and signing & pavement marking design
- Develop 3D models using civil design software (e.g., Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Autodesk Civil 3D)
- Support design of horizontal/vertical geometry, pavement sections, intersections/interchanges, ADA, bicycle and pedestrian elements
- Assist in preparing technical reports, specifications, and deliverables
- Perform assigned work under supervision in accordance with project budget and schedule
Qualifications
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
Preferred skills & experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or able to sit for it within 6 months
- Experience or coursework with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, or Bentley OpenRoads
- Internship or prior experience with engineering firms, contractors, or state DOTs focused on highway/transportation projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on design teams
Compensation & Additional Details
- Base salary: USD 75,000 – USD 85,000 per year
- Work model: Hybrid (office-based in Newark, DE with some flexible arrangements per team policy)

- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at a Confidential Client office location as a condition of employment
