Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level civil engineer to join a roadway design team supporting transportation projects across South Carolina. This is a hybrid, full-time role based in Edgewood, SC. The position provides hands-on exposure to roadway plan production, SCDOT design standards, and mentorship from senior roadway engineers.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with the design and preparation of roadway construction plans, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and quantity summaries.
  • Support senior staff developing right-of-way (ROW) plans, maintenance-of-traffic (MOT) layouts, and cost estimates.
  • Learn and apply SCDOT roadway design standards, manuals, and plan preparation procedures.
  • Draft and revise plan sheets using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (or AutoCAD Civil 3D where applicable).
  • Perform basic engineering calculations for horizontal/vertical geometry, drainage, and pavement design.
  • Coordinate with utilities and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) resources and other design disciplines.
  • Participate in field reviews, data collection, and coordination meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized project files and follow company and SCDOT QA/QC procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
  • Basic understanding of civil design principles, roadway geometry, and CAD drafting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6–12 months of hire.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Internship or prior project experience with SCDOT or other DOT roadway design projects.
  • Familiarity with SCDOT Design Manual, Plan Preparation Guide, and Standard Drawings.
  • Academic or professional experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Coursework or exposure to transportation engineering, highway design, and traffic engineering.
  • Interest in learning OpenRoads Designer and SCDOT plan preparation standards.

Working Conditions & Career Development

  • Office-based with occasional field visits and site observations.
  • Standard 40-hour work week; hybrid work model as applicable.
  • Mentoring and growth opportunities under experienced roadway engineers; support to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Relocation support is available. Sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is not available for this role.

Compensation & Additional Information

  • Pay range: USD 70,000 – USD 80,000 per year (offered rate will be based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location).
  • No sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is available now or in the future.
  • Day‑1 in-person onboarding at a local office may be required as a condition of employment (candidate will be notified by Confidential Client).
