What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level laboratory technician / chemical engineer focused on gas analysis. You will perform routine and non-routine analytical testing of medical and specialty gases to detect impurities, verify product quality, and support release decisions. This is a hands-on role working with gas cylinders, analytical instruments, and laboratory software while following strict safety and quality procedures.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform analytical testing of gas samples for impurities using gas chromatography (GC), GC-P systems, and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Connect gas cylinders to analytical systems in ventilated cabinets, run analyses, monitor tests, and safely disconnect cylinders.
  • Operate and maintain GC and GC-P instruments using control software (e.g., Galaxy/Compass) and support data acquisition.
  • Use Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometers and CO2 analyzers to identify and quantify gas components and trace impurities.
  • Upload, review, and document analytical results in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments.
  • Prepare and fill medical and specialty gas mixtures and pure gases using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques following established procedures.
  • Test and certify incoming raw materials and process cylinders for shipment (painting, labeling, valve preparation, certificates of analysis).
  • Maintain complete quality control records and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Follow safe handling procedures for compressed and hazardous gases and participate in required safety training.
  • Work collaboratively to support continuous improvement of laboratory methods and quality control processes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, OR a minimum of 2 years of analytical laboratory experience.

  • Experience with GC control software (e.g., Galaxy/Compass) and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with FTIR spectroscopy and CO2 analysis for gas testing.
  • Experience with quality control procedures, record-keeping, and regulatory compliance.
  • Comfortable handling toxic and hazardous chemicals; understands safe handling and PPE use.
  • Proficiency with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or similar software.
  • Strong attention to detail for calculations, gas mixture preparation, and documentation.
