Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an Entry-Level Biologist to join an environmental team supporting projects across the Southeast (primary focus: Tampa, FL). This early-career role blends field surveys, data collection, environmental permitting support, and technical reporting. Candidates will be considered for placement in Tampa, FL and nearby offices; exceptional candidates across the Southeast U.S. will also be considered. This role is full-time and includes a hybrid schedule with regular fieldwork.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist lead biologists and scientists with wetland, plant, wildlife, intertidal, nearshore marine, and protected upland habitat surveys.
  • Conduct protected species surveys and support coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Perform wetland delineations and functional assessments; collect, process, and QA field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Inspect stormwater and drainage facilities and document observations.
  • Support preparation of environmental permitting packages, NEPA documents, and technical reports.
  • Help identify potential environmental impacts through plan reviews, aerial imagery, desktop research, and GIS database queries.
  • Travel to project sites (may include overnight travel) and perform physically demanding fieldwork as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation; candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to the nature of the work.
  • Strong attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied conditions (heat, rain, uneven terrain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with field data collection, ecological research, and technical report writing.
  • Familiarity with federal/state environmental laws and regulatory processes (Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA).
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with tablets/iPads, Trimble GPS units or similar survey equipment.
  • GIS skills (ESRI ArcMap / ArcGIS Pro) for creating figures and analyzing location data.
  • Safety or health certifications (CPR, OSHA HAZWOPER, or similar).
  • College transcripts (GPA) and writing samples available for review.

Workplace Details & Additional Information

  • Employment type: FULL_TIME.
  • Hybrid schedule required; candidates must be able to commute to the Tampa office at least three days per week.
  • Fieldwork is required and may include long days, overnight travel, and physically demanding conditions.
  • Relocation assistance is not available.
  • Sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is not available now or in the future.
  • Day 1 in-person onboarding at a local office is required for all hires.
