What You’ll Do
This Entry-Level Background Investigator (Level I) role in Valley Village, CA performs federal background investigation work using virtual and in-person interview methods, records review, and multiple electronic systems. You will support national security missions by establishing factual, well-documented case findings.
- Use technology, electronic tools, and multiple systems simultaneously to conduct comprehensive interviews with subjects, employers, associates, references, and other knowledgeable individuals.
- Review records and documentation to resolve material issues and establish background, reputation, character, suitability, and qualifications of investigation subjects.
- Conduct interviews using Virtual Teleconference (VTC) as the primary method, plus phone and in-person interviews as needed.
- Complete multiweek intensive virtual training, followed by shadowing and mentorship with an experienced Investigator.
- Travel occasionally for temporary duty assignments (TDY) across the U.S. (typically up to 10%; short durations, often ~2 weeks).
You’ll Bring These Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of progressively responsible general experience (problem solving, planning/organizing work, clear oral and written communication).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable determination based on a T5 investigation.
- Strong sense of mission and commitment to national security and public service.
- Integrity, professionalism, and a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
- Ability to navigate and use multiple software systems concurrently to maintain productivity.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel locally when assignments require.
- Home office within reasonable distance to workload areas and equipped with reliable high-speed internet (a $50/month internet stipend is provided).
- Ability to sit, type, stand, or walk for extended periods as cases require.
- Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to:
- Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to individuals or groups.
- Listen attentively, read nonverbal cues, and present information persuasively when needed.
- Produce concise, well-organized written materials with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

- Active Top-Secret clearance adjudicated under a T5 investigation.

Compensation & Benefits
- Minimum Required Hourly Wage (SCA-covered): $26.07 per hour. Actual pay will vary by contract, location, job classification, and candidate experience.
