The Entry Level Background Investigator conducts comprehensive background investigations using multiple technologies and interview methods, primarily virtual teleconferencing, to support national security initiatives. What You’ll Do
This role supports federal background investigations using virtual and in-person interview methods (Virtual Teleconference (VTC) is primary). You will collect and verify factual information to determine a subject’s suitability for security clearances and related assignments.
- Use multiple electronic systems and tools simultaneously to conduct comprehensive interviews (VTC, phone, in-person) with subjects, employers, references, and other knowledgeable parties.
- Review records and reconcile discrepancies to resolve material issues in investigation files.
- Complete accurate, timely reports that document findings, while maintaining chain-of-custody and data security practices.
- Attend multi-week virtual training and participate in shadowing and mentorship with experienced investigators.
- Perform occasional temporary duty assignments (TDY), typically up to ~2 weeks, to different U.S. locations when required.
- Maintain productivity and quality while managing a remote/home-based workload.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience (problem solving, planning/organizing work, and written/oral communication).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable determination based on a T5 investigation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency using multiple technology systems and virtual teleconferencing platforms.
- Reliable personal transportation and a current driver’s license (local travel may be required depending on assignment).
- Home office with reliable high-speed internet (a $50/month internet stipend is provided).
- Ability to sit, type, stand, or walk for sustained periods and manage time effectively.
- Strong ethical standards, attention to detail, and the ability to interact with diverse individuals tactfully.
Nice to Have
- Active Top Secret clearance based on a T5 investigation.
- Prior investigative, law enforcement, or military experience.
- Experience conducting structured interviews and preparing investigative documentation.

Compensation & Benefits
This position is covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). Pay meets or exceeds the applicable wage determination for the work location.
- Minimum required hourly wage: $26.07 per hour (SCA minimum for federal contractor work).
- $50/month internet stipend for remote work.
- Benefits package may include healthcare, retirement, wellness, family support, continuing education, and time off—actual benefits depend on employment classification and location.
Location & Travel
- Primary work location: Tampa, FL (work is home-office based with virtual interviews as primary method).
- Occasional travel: Up to ~10% local travel; TDY assignments across the U.S. for brief periods (typically ~2 weeks).
