What You’ll Do
This entry-level investigator role supports federal background investigations using technology-enabled interviews and record reviews. You'll:
- Use electronic tools and multiple systems simultaneously to conduct comprehensive interviews (VTC, phone, in-person) with subjects, employers, associates, references, and other knowledgeable individuals.
- Review records and documentation to establish background, reputation, character, suitability, or qualifications and resolve material issues in each case.
- Conduct most interviews via Virtual Teleconference (VTC); travel to conduct in-person interviews or temporary duty assignments (TDY) when required.
- Complete a multiweek, intensive virtual training program with additional shadowing and mentorship from experienced investigators.
- Manage case workflow, maintain accurate case notes, and meet quality and timeliness standards.
Who Should Apply / Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating problem solving, planning, organization, and effective written and oral communication.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable determination based on a T5 investigation.
- Strong sense of mission, integrity, and a positive, professional attitude.
- Comfortable using and switching between multiple technology systems to maintain productivity.
- Current driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel locally depending on assignment.
- Home office with reliable high‑speed internet (a $50 monthly internet stipend is provided).
- Ability to sit, type, stand, or walk for extended periods; strong time-management and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate sensitive or complex information clearly and tactfully.
Nice to Have
- Active Top Secret clearance based on a T5 investigation.
Employment Type, Location & Travel
- Employment type: Part‑time (on‑call as needed).
- Primary work method: Virtual Teleconference (VTC) interviews; hybrid as assignment requires.
- Travel: Up to ~10% local travel; potential TDY to other U.S. locations for short assignments (typically ~2 weeks).
Compensation & Benefits
- This role is covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). Minimum required hourly wage for federal contractor work for this role: $26.07/hour (actual pay depends on contract, location, classification, and experience).
