About the Role
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring Entry-Level (Level 1) and Associate (Level 2) Software Safety Engineers to join a systems engineering team in Oklahoma City, OK. This Engineering role supports software safety across the full program lifecycle: concept, design, test, production, and sustainment. You will work with cross-functional engineering teams and program leadership to identify hazards, assess risk, and support software certification evidence for complex aerospace systems.
What You’ll Do
- Define and validate safety, mission success, and airworthiness considerations; help incorporate safety into designs, operations, and procedures.
- Support internal software certification activities and processes.
- Perform hazard tracking and risk resolution using System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), and Safety Critical Function Thread Analysis (SCFTA).
- Conduct safety assessments and prepare technical safety memos for review boards, engineering review boards, and safety review boards.
- Support System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) and track safety-critical items.
- Brief program management, customers (including military stakeholders), and other technical audiences.
- Analyze and integrate system-of-systems architectures from a software safety perspective.
- Assess regulatory and contractual compliance against applicable standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254, MIL-HDBK-516C Section 15, AC-17-01) and produce hazard mitigation evidence.
- Analyze software to identify potential failure conditions and investigate in-service fleet hazards, risks, or safety concerns.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements.
- Verify systems meet defined safety requirements through analyses, audits, and reviews; demonstrate mitigation approaches to customers and regulators.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Active U.S. Secret clearance, or ability to obtain one.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — experience briefing technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated analytical skills with experience collecting, organizing, and interpreting datasets.
- Experience in software engineering or safety engineering roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with software certification processes and standards (e.g., DO-178C) and experience supporting certification activities.
- 2+ years’ experience as a software engineer or safety engineer (preferred for Associate level).
- Experience with system hazard analysis and safety reporting.
Compensation & Benefits
- Summary Pay Range:
- Entry Level (Level 1): $66,300 - $89,700 per year
- Associate (Level 2): $82,450 - $111,700 per year
